What is Reiki?
Reiki is a meditative relaxation practice for cultivating healing, wellness, compassion, and inner peace. Loosely translated from Japanese as Universal Life Energy, Reiki also refers to the revitalizing power of interconnectedness. In a Reiki session, a Reiki Practitioner guides and accompanies a recipient to this place of unity with the intent to restore their wellness, peace, and actualize their highest good.
There are many lineages and histories within the field of Reiki. They each practice and explain Reiki in their own way. What follows here is how Reiki is considered in this practice.
What is Reiki Energy?
Reiki is the fundamental energy from which all other things in the universe arise. It goes by many other names including Prana, Zero-Point Energy, Christ Consciousness, and Love. Reiki Energy feels clear and revitalizing. We can experience a moment of Reiki at any time by coming into our senses with a deep breath.
In unifying ourselves with Reiki, we experience an unforgettable clarity and build a spirit that is unmoved by impermanent signals like anger or anxiety. When we practice Reiki enough, that clarity becomes our day-to-day reality.
What is Reiki as a Practice?
Reiki is a clinically-proven meditation technique optimized for relaxation and healing. When Reiki Practitioners perform Reiki, they guide and accompany a recipient into this state of meditation where wellness, understanding, and inner peace can occur. Reiki sessions take place in person or from a distance.
To perform Reiki, practitioners use their hands, sound, Reiki Symbols, grids, candles, or altars to cultivate Reiki Energy. At Distance Reiki • Online, our tradition includes all of the above with Usui hand positions and quartz singing bowls.
What are the Results of Reiki?
Reiki works on every level of healing — physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. The practice of Reiki has been scientifically demonstrated to improve “multiple variables related to physical and psychological health” after just one session.
Because everyone brings something unique to the Reiki table, goals vary and so do their results. Some are looking to heal quickly after a surgery. Others may seek enlightenment. Reiki can help with all of it.
And though Reiki is powerful, it can’t overwhelm you or work against your interests. A Reiki Master will direct and amplify Reiki Energy — but you are always in control of how you apply the energy you receive.
What is a Reiki Master?
To be a Reiki Master is to have trained in and committed to Reiki as a lifestyle. They observe the Reiki precepts in day-to-day life:
Just for today, let go of worry.
Just for today, let go of anger.
Just for today, work honestly.
Just for today, live in gratitude.
Just for today, live in compassion.
To live in Reiki is to be fully present in your heart. Reiki Masters have committed themselves to living in a free and unburdened heart space so that what is Real and essential may emerge uninterrupted by the limitations of the ego, mind, or false self.
This does not mean Reiki Masters never feel bad — it means they are unaffected by the bad feelings that they happen to notice within the boundless, permanent bliss and the indelible gratitude that they’ve chosen.
The goal of Distance Reiki • Online is to illuminate others to this sacred gift.
